Even the plotline of Willy Jack Pickens, while somewhat censored, remains intact and delivers sufficient comedy and emotion in turn. The complete absence of Benny Goodluck is most notable, though admittedly he wasn’t a central character for most of the novel.įor the most part, however, the book’s general plot comes across nicely on the screen. Some minor plot points didn’t make the cut and some of the many characters from Sequoyah had to be combined or removed altogether. The book is fairly long and some alterations were necessary to condense it to a two-hour feature film. Author Billie Letts has a way of crafting words and characters that left me with a feeling of utter warmth and safety. With my renewed desire to make progress on my piles of unread books, I recently picked up Where the Heart Is and finished it within a day. The book was waiting for me at Lifeline Bookfest last year and I couldn’t resist.
